Thanks for checking us out we appreciate your interest.

McPherson Youth Pipes and Drums was established for the purpose of providing the youth of McPherson and the surrounding communities the opportunity to learn to play the Great Highland Bagpipes, an instrument with a long and colorful heritage.

In 1980, Lonny Liljegren, then a McPherson High School Teacher, and his good friend Jeff Frazier set out on a journey to become proficient in playing the Great Highland Bagpipe. As any dedicated piper will tell you, the journey is never-ending. Along the way these two gentlmen felt a calling to provide good, solid, fundamental bagpipe instruction to anyone interested, particularly young people.

Lonny and Jeff developed a basic instruction book, found some dedicated recruits, and McPherson Youth Pipes and Drums came into existance.

Band membership consists of youth, ages 10 to 21.  Both girls and boys participate in playing the pipes or the drums.  Family involvement is encouraged and appreciated.

MYPD meets on Monday evenings from 5pm to 7pm at the McPherson Community Building.

Private lessons are scheduled to meet the needs of the student.

McPherson Youth Pipes and Drums has adopted the McPherson Clan Tartan for it's kilts because of its association with McPherson the city and its personal connection with members of Clan McPherson.

The MacPherson Hunting Tartan is proudly worn by all members of the band.
